熊谷 隼人 Hayato Kumagai / Artist
Born in Ōita Prefecture in 1991 and raised in Niigata, I graduated from the Department of Design at Shizuoka University of Art and Culture. I am currently based in Hokkaido, continuing a journey of painting that seeks to trace the origins of life and the beginnings of existence.
In 2016, I began creating collage-based artworks after a moment of inspiration—when trees and fallen leaves appeared to me as deer and birds. Since then, I have held solo exhibitions across Japan. In 2019, I created a large-scale work titled “The Light of the Beginning”, measuring approximately 3.6 meters high and 5.4 meters wide. In 2020, I relocated to Hokkaido and was responsible for the artwork of “The World”, an album by haruka nakamura and LUCA. Since 2023, I have been touring Japan with a traveling exhibition of large-scale paintings titled “The Sail of Wind”, which will culminate in the burning of the artwork.
Drawng is like a divine presence that drifts through the world like the wind, sowing seeds of imagery wherever it goes. I believe there is an unparalleled light that leads us to another realm of time. As long as life continues, I will go on painting.
